Homemade Speculaas Spice Blend is full of fall and winter comforting spices from Europe. In fact, I consider it the European equivalent of Pumpkin Spice. Hence, it is perfect to add to mulled wines and other alcoholic drinks. As well as adding to pumpkin dishes, gingerbread, gingersnap, spice cakes, and many more. In fact, I have sometimes used it interchangeably with Pumpkin Pie Spice.
Homemade Speculaas Spice Blend:
Speculaas are traditional cookies. They are from the Netherlands and Germany. However, there is also a cookie called Speculoos. Nonetheless, Speculaas and Speculoos are not the same cookie or even from the same culture. Speculoos is Belgian. At any rate, these cookies make their appearance every November in Europe. Indeed, these tasty treats can be found in many shops and bakeries in the above countries in Europe. As well as Christmas Markets and Fairs. One of my bucket list dreams is to go to the Christmas Markets in Europe and sample the local traditional favorites. Boy, I can’t wait to travel again.
The holiday season brings out traditional recipes from around the world. In any event, it ties us to past generations of relatives. Furthermore, it is like reaching back in time and having conversations with our family from the past. It is something that ties us all together.
Needless to say, the aromas and flavors are ones that I enjoy. Since my husband’s family is Dutch German it seemed like something I needed in my pantry. I have, at any rate, use it interchangeably in many of my American recipes that use Pumpkin Spice. Why not give this spice a place in your pantry or larder. Whole spices can be used and ground individually. Once ground remove the amount listed below.
Amazon sells many different Spice jars.
