Hickory BBQ Sauce

My recipes are grain free, refined sugar free and most are dairy free.  Most BBQ sauces have molasses syrup. But molasses is a refined sugar so I can’t use it. I needed to make a BBQ sauce so that we could have bbq grilled ribs. This is the recipe I came up with. I used black cherry Zevia because it uses stevia as a sweetener. You could use Dr. Zevia or another brand of soda to give it lots of flavor. This BBq sauce is thick if you like it a little thinner just add water. Keep in my Zevia has no refined sugar. Use with Nevada Sauce recipe. You can also use this to top pizza with.

Use with Cauli-Almond Pizza Crust, Cauliflower and Cassava Pizza Crust, Chicken Wings, Popcorn Chicken, Chicken Strips etc.

Notes: Feel free to just leave out the Zevia soda or exchange it for apple juice.

1 cup water

1 cup black cherry Zevia

1 8 oz can tomato paste

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

2 minced garlic cloves

2 teaspoons salt

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon prepared mustard

2 teaspoons smoked paprika

1/2 cup maple sugar

2 tablespoons my Nevada Sauce

1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder

1 1/1 teaspoon hickory liquid smoke

 

Directions

Combine all the ingredients cook on low for 30 minutes or so. Allow to cool before using. Pour into a glass jar store in the fridge for up to one month.
