Protein Packed Orange Julius is a protein version of an old classical sweet, tangy, frothy ice-cold drink from the food court of malls across the good ole USA. Indeed, this sweet drink tastes like a wonderful ice-cold creamsicle. Just in time for cooling down the summer heat. A quick and easy way to whip up a delightful heavenly cold orange drink. In fact, if you don’t have a juicer you could manually juice it with a reamer or a hand squeezer. Made with fresh orange juice. Hence, they were the first smoothies. So if you are feeling nostalgic why not make up a batch today? However, if you have never had it you are in for a treat. One little sip will have you hopelessly devoted.
Protein Packed Orange:
Incidentally, I grew up drinking Orange Julius in the late ’70s when Idaho Falls, Idaho was getting its first malls. Consequently, I can remember the first time I tried an Orange Julius it tasted almost like ice cream. It tasted like an orange creamsicle. From then on I was hooked. If we went to the mall in town I hope that we would stop by the little Kiosk in the center of the mall for this delectable treat. Believe it or not, I have fond memories of the Orange Julius, Scotty’s Drive-In, the Dairy Queen in Rexburg. But, those are stories for another day.
This recipe makes 2 servings and is packed with added protein from the egg and powder. In conclusion, I heightened the vanilla flavor with a small amount of powdered vanilla monkfruit (find the recipe on my blog).
Protein Packed Orange Julius History:
In doing some research for this blog post I found out that the drink has been around since 1929. In spite of its popularity the inventor sold his company in 1967, there were more than 400 outlets. Eventually, it didn’t hit its peak until the 1980s when it was sold to Dairy Queen.
Amazon sells Axe Bone Broth Protein Powder.
