Swedish Creamy Langostino Bisque is a poor man’s easy lobster bisque full of langostino or lobster. In fact, this decadent soup can be made with Langostinos or with lobster or lobster claws. Needless to say, This soup is perfect for any day but especially on rainy or cold weather days. As a matter of fact, this creamy soup will have your belly begging for more. Lobster Bisque has long been a comfort food. Naturally, lobster is expensive but Langostino is a great substitute and inexpensive. A tasty treat any time of the year.
Needless to say, I had a hankering for some lobster bisque. Have you seen the price of lobster lately? It is outrageous. Therefore, when I saw some Langostino meat at Costco I thought it would be the perfect substitute. Furthermore, some people think that Langostino is a form of lobster. However, it is not. Some think it is a prawn again they would be mistaken.
In all honesty, Langostino is a Spanish name for a squat lobster. Don’t ask me why they call it a squat lobster when they are not even related to the lobster. They are, however, not related to crustaceans. By the way, the meat is a flavor in between a lobster and a prawn. In any case, Langostino meat is way cheaper than lobster.
Chef Notes:
Subsequently, I could have called this a poor man’s lobster bisque instead of Creamy Langostino Soup. But I wanted to also show some appreciation for the Swedish culture. So I gave the bisque a more Swedish flare. Not to mention, Swedes have a lot of dill in their recipes. So of course, this soup has fresh dill. All in all Seafood and dill is always a great combination. In short, Tarragon is used more commonly used in European foods than in American cuisine. Most Swedish dishes I can remember have cream in them. Therefore cream was a must.
However, I began to feel like an artist painting a renaissance painting. Dipping my brush into various colors but instead of colors add this spice and that. Adding nice chunks of vegetables and creating not on a canvas but instead in a pot on the stove and allowing heat to mix and meld my flavors.
Moreover, this soup is slightly thick similar to a chowder but with chunks of Langostino meat floating in it. Once the mirepoix is cooked I then add cold cream and room temperature water to my blender then I add soup from the stove and blend until smooth. Incidentally, this gives the soup its bisque texture. All in all, I hope you enjoy my masterpiece.
Swedish Creamy Langostino Bisque Recipe Notes:
Not to mention, it is perfect for an anniversary dinner or date night. Serve with Scandinavian Lemon Dill Shrimp or make Smoky BBQ Sauce Cocktail sauce with the shrimp and serve as an appetizer. The bisque can be the main course or you could make Best Prime Rib Roast go with it.
To sum it up, please note that I am not a wine drinker. I suggest using the wine you prefer drinking. Tomato Paste and Sun-Dried Tomato Paste from a tube in this recipe. In any event, they are both found in your grocery store near the canned tomato paste and sauces. Tapioca Flour or Arrowroot Flour is best to use as a thickener.
