 Cocktail Sauce for Seafood. As always my recipes are grain free, refined sugar free, and many are dairy free. I have autoimmune illnesses and with the help of a functional doctor have been put on a course of healing my gut and improving my health. The biggest change for me has been a return of energy. Prior to eating this way I was always exhausted. I am still not at 100% but now at least I don’t need to take a nap after taking a shower.

I want to take a moment to Thank all emergency personnel that work on all the holidays. Thank you for your time and for taking care of others while missing out on time with your families.

It has been a busy time getting ready for the holidays. My daughter worked until late Christmas Eve and my husband worked Christmas Day. It wasn’t too bad as he was off by 2:00 pm. We spent Christmas Eve at home and had a slimmed down version of a Swedish Smorgasbord. Then we got up early and went to my Mothers-in-law for Christmas dinner. We always have Prime Rib and the fixings. I brought tapioca flour to make gravy with, some crackers for me to eat, some mayo to make my mother in laws Artichoke dip (so I could eat the dip), Au Jus, homemade horseradish for the Prime Rib, and some dip for vegetables. This way I can eat most of the items on the table.

Now it is time to focus on recipes for New Year or New Year’s Eve Parties. One of my favorites and one we had on Christmas Eve was peel and eat shrimp. I made a Smoky Cocktail Sauce to dip the shrimp into. It is so good. You could use it for shrimp, clams, Langoustine, maybe even a salmon. I know that it sounds odd to be using a Hickory BBQ sauce but the smoky flavor with the horseradish really makes this sauce.

After scouring the ingredient list of Cocktail Sauces in the store I have taken the time to make my own. I make my own Hickory BBQ sauce and often have that in the fridge. I have also found that most Horseradish on the market also contains items I can’t eat and is not potent enough for me. Therefore I make my own. Feel free to make this recipe with Ketchup. I tend to have my Hickory BBQ Sauce, Nevada Sauce, and my freshly made Homemade Horseradish in my fridge at all times. I make them frequently and use them in many of my dishes. If you don’t already have these items made it will take longer to make this cocktail sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Hickory BBQ Sauce see my recipe
  • 1 tsp Homemade Horseradish see my recipe
  • 1 tsp Nevada Sauce see my recipe
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp Cholula

Instructions

  • Combine Hickory BBQ Sauce
  • with horseradish
  • adding in Nevada Sauce
  • with lemon juice
  • and finally mixing in the Cholula
  • Stir until combined
