Homemade taco seasoning is the perfect addition to tacos whether they are seafood, beef, or chicken. Indeed this spice blend will make your tacos and Tex-Mex food so flavorful with just a hint of smokey flavor. Use it to flavor soups, beans, salads, and more. Tacos are a wonderful lunch or dinner. Quick and easy to make. Simply place ingredients into a 1-pint canning jar screw on the top and shake until combined. How easy is that?
Homemade Taco Seasoning:
Needless to say, Taco Seasoning is a wonderful pantry ingredient. Not to mention, creating your own lets you be in control of what is in your spice blend. Not to mention the money saved. Most importantly, it is easy to customize to suit your family. My family likes a little heat but not spicy. Cumin is a favorite and adds a slightly warm and earthy flavor. As a matter of fact, no taco seasoning would be complete without it. Don’t get me wrong it is way more convenient to purchase it from a store. However, store-bought ones are often laden with fillers and ingredients I can’t even pronounce. For health reasons I, therefore, make it myself.
A flavorful combination to make your Mexican or Tex-Mex food sing. Optional ingredients can alter the flavor and customize it. Suggested add-ins are 1 tsp cocoa powder or 1 tsp cinnamon. Add both or only one to create a deeper more complex flavor. Indeed, Ground Jalapeno powder or Chipotle can up the spice level. Use with Gluten-Free Chicken Tacos.
Seasonings Used
Believe it or not, oregano has minty notes while Mexican Oregano has citrus notes. However, if Mexican oregano is not on hand use what you have. Incidentally, I used mild paprika as well. Of course, Hot Paprika could also be used. Keep in mind using hot paprika or homemade chili powder will affect the heat. In conclusion, this is a mild seasoning.
